Space Exploration Technologies Corp. proposes to acquire 100% of the shares in Anysphere, Inc., an artificial intelligence (AI) coding tool developer. SpaceX's group includes xAI, which develops AI models and coding tools. Anysphere's Cursor AI coding tool can utilise xAI's Grok models.
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. ( SpaceX ), through its subsidiary, proposes to acquire 100% of the shares in Anysphere, Inc. ( Anysphere ). SpaceX is the ultimate parent company of the SpaceX group, which includes X.AI Corp ( xAI ), an artificial intelligence ( AI ) company, and X Corp., which owns and operates the X social media platform (formerly Twitter). xAI develops the Grok family of large language models and offers Grok Build, a terminal-native AI coding tool, to Grok and X subscribers. Grok Build currently runs on xAI’s Grok model family. Anysphere develops and operates Cursor, an AI coding tool used by software developers to write and review code with the assistance of AI models. Cursor users can select from a range of third-party large language models (including Grok models) or Anysphere’s proprietary Composer model to power the platform’s AI assistant features. Composer is purpose-built for Cursor and is not offered as a standalone general-purpose model for other purposes.
The ACCC has prepared a questionnaire on the acquisition.
