Contacting the ACCC about informal merger reviews and voluntary notifications in 2025
This communication provides guidance on contacting Australia's competition regulator regarding mergers and acquisitions during the transitional period leading to the reformed regulatory framework.
Key Contact Information
For informal merger reviews:
- Email: mergers@accc.gov.au with relevant merger details
- Ongoing matters should continue engaging with already-assigned ACCC teams
- Three new merger assessment branches now handle matters, led by Bruce Mikkelsen, Morag Bond, and Daniel McCracken-Hewson
For the new merger control regime (voluntary until January 2026):
- Email: notify-an-acquisition@accc.gov.au
- Use either short or long notification forms, depending on complexity
- Pre-notification engagement available upon request with required documentation
Important Guidance
The ACCC encourages pre-notification engagement and recommends submitting draft notification forms alongside engagement requests. This approach "facilitates a more meaningful discussion" about transactions and helps teams provide better guidance on potential issues.
An assigned ACCC team will typically contact parties within several days of allocation.
